Triscuit’s name has nothing to do with the variety of layers the cracker has– it’s really a portmanteau of two entirely unanticipated words. According to the business, its name in fact stems from “electrical energy biscuit.” The snack’s genuine name was revealed in reaction to a Twitter thread from writer Sage Boggs.
Several years ago I was at a party( BRAG!), and I identified a box of Triscuits. I asked everybody,” What does the word’Triscuit ‘imply? It’s clearly
based on the word “BISCUIT,”but what does the”TRI”imply?”(I’m fantastic at parties.)– Sage Boggs(@sageboggs) March 26, 2020 Boggs emailed the parent company, Nabisco, after try to guess where the name”Triscuit”came from.” No business records made it through which particularly describe the origins of inspiration for the word Triscuit,” the company informed Boggs in an email. “However we do know the name was selected as an enjoyable derivation of the word ‘biscuit.’ The ‘TRI’ does not indicate 3.”
Boggs, “baffled” and still curious, did some digging and unearthed Triscuit’s original advertisements.

— Sage Boggs (@sageboggs) March 26, 2020 Triscuit’s early selling point, Boggs said, was that it was “baked by electricity”– the company was lacked Niagara Falls and powered the production process from the then-novel creation.
